Weekend plan in Krakow - interesting places and attractions
Kraków is a city with a rich history and beautiful architecture that enchants with its charm. When visiting Kraków, you can discover the historic Old Town with its beautiful Main Market Square, explore the secrets of Wawel Castle, and stroll through the atmospheric Kazimierz district. Additionally, the proximity of the Wieliczka Salt Mine and the picturesque Zakopane make Kraków an ideal starting point for exploring other attractions in the region.
We have specially prepared a list of places that you can add to your weekend trip plan to Kraków. Besides popular spots, we also have some unusual and lesser-known suggestions, but equally beautiful 😊
What is worth seeing in Kraków?
1. Main Market Square in Kraków – this is the city point that everyone who comes here must see. It is the center of Kraków, and in its vicinity, you will find many various historic buildings and places. The Cloth Hall, St. Mary's Basilica, Wawel – the royal castle and cathedral with the tombs of Polish monarchs are just a few things you can see in this area.
Some tips:
- The square has many places where you can enjoy delicious food – we recommend Kraków's obwarzanek bagels
- You can start sightseeing from the center of the square and then head towards Wawel. The castle is located on the Vistula River – it is worth walking along its bank towards the Father Bernatek Footbridge. However, this is also a place worth seeing at night.
- Right under Wawel, you will find the famous Wawel Dragon
- While exploring Kraków's Old Town, it is also worth visiting Kazimierz, the historic Jewish district. Here you will find many charming cafes, restaurants, and streets.
2. Father Bernatek Footbridge is a popular place both for tourists and city residents. It can be recognized as the lovers' bridge – you will find many padlocks on it. We recommend visiting it in the evening when it is already dark.
3. Forum Hall – a place that is especially lively in the summer. It is located on the Vistula River. Right next to it is a viewing balloon, which can take you up to 150 meters high to admire Kraków from such height.
4. Colorful stairs in Podgórze – a place mainly known from photos on social media. The stairs are located on Tatrzańska Street. You can stop here and read the quotes written on the stairs.
5. Zakrzówek is a picturesque place near Kraków that attracts both residents and tourists. It is a former limestone quarry that has been flooded with water, creating a beautiful lake.
6. Krakus Mound (Kopiec Kraka) – located in Podgórze, where you can admire a beautiful panorama of Kraków. The view includes, among others, Wawel Castle, the Old Town, and the Vistula River. This place is also an excellent spot for a picnic.
Besides the places mentioned above, we recommend going to the theater. Kraków has many theaters on the map, but one of the most popular is the famous Słowacki Theater. Remember that tickets for performances sell out quickly.
In Kraków, you will also find many restaurants. Apart from standard and traditional ones, we recommend visiting the Cat Café, Psikawka, and Bunny Cafe – the Rabbit Café.
Accommodation in Kraków – where to stay?
Kraków has no shortage of hotels, but after a whole day of sightseeing, we recommend a quiet place like the Hotel Szary Residence. It is a place just outside Kraków that allows you to relax away from the city's hustle and bustle, yet close to it. The hotel also has a restaurant that serves delicious meals. We warmly invite you!
